City of Camorr

The Lies of Locke Lamora

"To us - richer and cleverer than everyone else!" - Scott Lynch

I was commissioned by The Broken Binding to create this illustration of Camorr from The Lies of Locke Lamora in the Gentlemen Bastards series. It is an extra for their beautiful special editions of the trilogy, and I am able to sell my own prints here as well!

This was a dream project for me as The Lies of Locke Lamora is one of my favorite books. I listened to the Audiobook for this again as I painted.

Getting in all of the details from the book was a fun challenge. Using maps and reading through the book, I decided on this view of the Via Camorrazza, with the Angevine river in the distance and the shifting market to the right. The 5 towers are in the distance as described in the book with their heights, sizes, and colors as accurate as I could get them as well as the 3 moons described in the books. In the canal and some of the windows you can see the alchemical lamps. Locke and Jean and of course the Wicked Sisters are looking out at the city with mischief in mind.

The whole process for the image is available on my Youtube channel here: https://youtu.be/EU76rdlX4Og

Elder Dragon

This is a personal illustration of my absolute favorite thing to paint. Freaking enormous dragons.

It was so much fun detailing this piece for hours, trying to portray the sense of an ancient vast creature compared to tiny humans and regular sized dragons.

Dragon Skull Gate

The Silverblood promise

"As Lukan stood there, the sights and sounds of an unfamiliar city crashing over him, he felt the enormity of his task settle on his shoulders like a dead weight."

This is an illustration for a special edition of The Silverblood Promse by James Logan, created by The Broken Binding. I worked with James a year and a half ago on the cover of the book and I was brought back for the special edition this year.

The illustration portrays Lukan the main character entering the city of Saphrona for the first time at the beginning of his adventure.

Both James Logan the author and Matt from The Broken Binding have been an absolute pleasure to work with, I can't wait to get started on book 2!

Saphrona Procession

the silverblood promise

"Two standard-bearers rode at the head of the column, their gilded armour gleaming in the sun, the hooves of their white destriers crushing the petals that already covered the ground. Their polished lances bore two banners: the bat of Saphrona, black against gold, and the three rings of Zar-Ghosa, silver on blue. The emblems of two cities, once bitter enemies that had warred for centuries, now fluttering side by side in peace. It's almost enough to stir the blood, Lukan thought, if it wasn't about to go to shit."

The illustration portrays Lukan, Flea and Ashra watching the colourful parade of officials and nobles right before something happens…
